[...] This definitely sounds like a very nice, well thought out application, but I don’t think it can compete with the likes of eBay as the guys at razorshine seem to think. The reason Edgeio, as it is now, doesn’t stand up well with eBay is that there is a critical piece of the puzzle that is missing and that is a reputation engine. Reputation is what makes eBay a trusted market place.  There is, however, a market for Edgeio – the same marketplace now dominated by Craig’s List and Google’s adsense.
yes - the key barrier though is getting people to use it - first and foremost they are reliant on bloggers to help build their community by buying and selling products. The more I interact with it the more I think the ability to post items needs to be improved. Its still in private beta so there is plenty of time :)

[...] With a name like Edgeio I think it is a safe guess that this is eBay’s new Web 2.0 equivalent. While I haven’t actually looked at the site yet — it’s still in private beta — the concept seems promising. [...]

Sneak peek at edgeio!...

I received an invite to take a sneak peek at edgeio this morning - edgeio is Michael Arrington of TechCrunch fame’s latest startup. The tagline for edgeio is “Listings from the edge” so the name comes from the word “edge”...
